Chasing Taboo - Dodge Bullet [Film]

About

Chasing Taboo is the story of Olivia Cunnington, a disgruntled little rich girl looking for trouble—and finding it.

After a lifetime of making all the right choices and finding herself miserable, she decides to give the wrong choices a chance. Olivia gets wrapped up in a wonderland of hedonistic rebellion, where drugs, sex, and even violence go from being the stuff of silver screen fantasy to quickly becoming day-to-day practice, and the girl who followed all the rules revels in her quest to break them all.

But her plans for personal liberation get sidetracked when she falls in love with a walking mystery named Hero, her rich father’s worst nightmare. Hero is the leader of a crime underworld that her family had worked hard to make sure she would never realize existed, and before she can slam her foot on the brakes, she’s tied in every way imaginable to a dangerous street gang. When her riotous fantasies become reality, she learns that reality has consequences—and that there is no place where there are no rules. The rules just change, and breaking these new ones could be deadly.

Olivia

Olivia didn’t ask to be born rich. In fact, she didn’t ask to be born at all. Not that she didn’t appreciate being born, because there were many things about life that she enjoyed a great deal, like eating jelly beans, taking bubble baths, and laughing at the misfortune of others. She didn’t dislike being rich either; she always had the most obscenely advanced cell phone on the market and DRY CLEAN ONLY tags never disuaded her from buying the clothes she wanted. That said, she felt like somewhat of an indentured servant, like she had a tremendous debt to pay for her cushy, worry-free lifestyle. Her mother always reminded her how good she had it, how much she didn’t appreciate what was given to her, even rubbing in the occasional classic, “There are starving kids in random-obscure-third-world-country who would love to have your dinner.” But Olivia, no matter how much she wanted to, never, ever said, “Then send it to them.” She ate that dinner until her stomach nearly burst to prove her appreciation, not daring to imagine what it would be like to go hungry.

She did the ballet recitals. She dated the right guys. She went to church. She got the straight As. She got the degree. She shook the hands they told her to shake, all in guilt, all in believing mother knows best, all in hopes to pay the debt of her priveleged birth. But she was bored. More than bored—she was empty. Her reflection displayed little more than a product of her parents’ craftsmanship and her experience had carved out a bitter little girl with a lack of fondess for so-called “right” decisions, so now, fresh from her college graduation, she was ready to make all the wrong ones.

The Fan Fiction

The original Chasing Taboo was a fan fiction story centered around Korean pop group Dong Bang Shin Ki (TVXQ!). What started as a silly, smutty story about Korean gangsters in Dallas, Texas soon exploded with popularity, with thousands of readers all over the world checking Winglin and Livejournal daily to see what trouble Olivia and the boys were going to get into next. The enthusiasm of Chasing Taboo’s readers grew and grew, birthing dozens of fan projects such as art and videos. It was proving to have a life of it’s own, outside of the fandom for which it was created. Thus, ChasingTaboo.com, a non-fic version, was born.
